学术顾问

All undergraduate students in 莫大学 of Arts and Sciences have an assigned faculty advisor. 经济学 faculty are assigned as advisors to students whose primary major is 经济学. However, many of your questions can be answered by the 经济学 Office.

Connecting with Your Advisor

In AGORA you may view your faculty advisor by selecting “My Services,” “Account and Personal Information,” then “Academic Advisor.” First Year Students are assigned advisers through the 学术顾问 Center. Economic faculty members serve as advisors for sophomores, juniors and seniors. During the registration period, economics faculty will provide sign-up emails for drop in advising. Feel free to use this time to learn about their research, ask career questions, or get more information on specific courses.

Tips for Productive 建议 Appointments

To get the most out of your time with economics faculty, it is strongly suggested students:

  • come prepared having done any requisite research on courses, 学术政策, 出国留学, the economics degree pathway, 等.
  • 准时. It's ok to cancel and reschedule meetings if necessary, but let your Advisor know beforehand, 没有后来.
  • come to the meeting with an idea about which classes they might take, especially electives. The better organized you are going into the meeting, the more helpful your advisor will be and the more you'll get out of the meeting.
In addition to administrators and faculty, student leadership in the department will also be hosting virtual and in person drop-in advising. 经济学 majors who are also in the 经济学 Honor Society, Omicron Delta Epsilon [ODE], and the 电子游戏软件 经济学 Association [BCEA] will be available to answer any questions. Students are encouraged to use all available advising resources; it is not necessary to pick just one. Make an appointment, sign up with your faculty advisor and / or stop in for drop-in advising with peer mentors.

Students can access their 学位审核 in their Agora Student Portal by selecting “My Services,” “Account and Personal Information,” then “Degree Audit.”

If you see that certain requirements that were once filled are not currently showing as fulfilled, please contact Karen Livingston at 凯伦.livingston@highw.net. Be sure to include your exact issue with course detail included along with your eagle identification or full name as it appears in Eagle Apps.

经济学 Electives

The department offers a wide variety of electives covering the major fields in economics and also reflecting the research interests of the faculty. 课程 at the 2000-level require Principles and/or Statistics as prerequisites. 课程 at the 3000-level require one or both Theory courses. A growing number of upper-level electives may have additional requirements, such as Econometrics. Consult the course listings for specific information on course content and prerequisites.

Writing-Intensive 课程

Each semester the department will offer several electives in a writing-intensive format with lower enrollments and a significant writing component. These courses provide excellent opportunities to develop writing skills and to get to know a professor more closely. Consult the course listings each semester for up-to-date information on which courses are being offered in this format.

Juniors or seniors with exceptional records and with good mathematical backgrounds are invited to take one or more courses offered in the Ph.D. program (courses numbered in the 7000's and 8000's).
